What’s a small moment from your past that you still think about years later?
Life is bigger than that.
What an inconsiderate question!
There are no small moments in anyone’s life.
Each one leads to a myriad ramifications, each and everyone full of meaning, hope, expectations and disillusions.
To claim otherwise is illogical and nonsensical.
Life is the greatest game of serendipity and gratuitous nefarious happenstance that can ever be.
Nothing happens in a vacuum neither.
So everything one does affects others in ways that cannot be fathomed and remain unknown even after they do happen.
There are no small moments, only big regrets.
And no, Edith Piaf didn’t have a clue when she came up with her chanson célèbre: Je ne regrette rien.
To say that is to spit in the face of evidence. Nobody lives life fully. Those who do end up in the ground. Life is full of consequence. And the graveyards attest to that.
I regret plenty but I don’t regret my path. I regret the innocent victims whom I’ve left behind in order to forge it in a different land in a galaxy far away: my mother, my grandmother, my best friends. Everyone else, they can go to hell!
