Situational awareness saves the day

What’s one piece of travel advice you always follow?

Whether you find yourself in Canton, Timbouktou, Quebec City, Hanoi, Sofia, or Triconmalee, it’s best to stay situationally aware.

No matter where you are at, who you are with, and what you need to do, shopping, sightseeing, partying, visiting, or just sleepwalking, you want to have your head piece on a swivel.

Prevention is key. Most sketchy situations and problematic encounters can be seen from a mile, and thus avoided by giving their locales a wide berth.

This advice goes out to both girls and boys out there.

Remember: Homo homini lupus est. Man is wolf to man.

Be smart, adapt to the situation and overcome.

Flee what you cannot outfight but be prepared to fight what you cannot out-flee, just like Admiral Scheer himself in 1914, and the Kriegsmarine’s own Admiral Scheer pocket battleship.

For everything else, improvise.
