Life is about Belonging

What's a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had? I wish I had come up with this realization on my own. Alas, I read about it in a book. Not even a very good book. Just a book. One of the most important things one can find in life is meaning. Think … Continue reading Life is about Belonging

On Splendid Isolation

Sometimes it pays not to open your legs for the first newcomer. Modesty and purity are ideals that hold a greater value both for the individual as well as on a macro scale. Rejecting alien notions, saving itself for a better match, allowed Japan to reach a stage that offered more opportunities, and less risk for opening its borders and trade to the Outside world.

There Can Be Only One

Family is the most important thing. That is Your own family! Not the one you were born into. That is most likely a crapshoot. So, if you had to choose, it’d be hard one. Luckily for me, it was a no brainer. 20 years ago, I spent a whole two seconds to make up my mind. In the end, I left my grandmother and mother alone and I set out for the New World. I got my family, my dream home, and my domestic bliss. But my mom and grandma both died because of my choice.

Shop until you drop

Daily writing promptWhere would you go on a shopping spree?View all responses I am personally partial to shopping at Costco. That is when it comes to shopping at a mom and pop brick and mortar old fashioned shoppe. Irony, eh! As for my online needs that must be quenched in the heat of battle, so … Continue reading Shop until you drop

Vixerunt 2.0

Daily writing promptYou're writing your autobiography. What's your opening sentence?View all responses Short answer: I lived. The Romans said it best: vixerunt. This single word expresses everything that counts in the world. It brings meaning to all our lives, now and then, and perhaps for as long as there'll be people. If you live your … Continue reading Vixerunt 2.0

On Support

I was thinking the other day about what goes on in the world today. You know and I know that Ukraine War has cost us all a mint of money and it looks as though it was all for naught. At least from our perspective as Western tax payers. Because the corporations are going in … Continue reading On Support

The Trap of a Wandering Mind

Wondering is healthy. Wandering not so much. Better hit the gym or get physical. The answer is always out there. We were meant to think. Not overthink. Action beats inaction.

Montesquieu was Right

Change doesn’t happen in a vacuum. No one changes their ways just for the heck of it. But if one must change, they’d better do it for the right reasons. Being neutral is a safer bet than adhering to any military alliance. Nobody owes anyone anything. Protection doesn’t come gratis. And sometimes the price is your own existence.
