The Swiss Self-Sabotage – Sic Transit Gloria Helveticae

The Swiss became rich because they played it smart, staying out of European and World conflicts for 507 years. That’s a long stretch. Now, they decided to take sides. Unfortunately, History is replete with brutal reminders of what happens when people forget their lessons. The price of adventurous folly is always steep. Caveat emptor!

The First and Last Men

Humans are bound to evolve. But Evolution’s constraining factor is the Universe and its Laws. Everything comes from something and changes into something else. Suns are born, evolve, and die. And when they do, they take away their planetary systems. Given enough time or a long-enough ‘cosmic rope’, What Will We Do to avoid such a Master-Reset? Most likely: Nothing. If you want to know why, step right in, folks.

Prigozhin’s Rebellion

Plutarch recounts how the Sabine king Tatius compensated the traitorous Roman Tarpeia for her treason. He buried her alive under the weight of the gold she received for her infamous act. Tatius said “I love treason (since it helped me conquer Rome) but I despise the traitor.” Well, Putin likes neither. He rewards betrayal with death. Prigozhin made a play for power. He failed. He died. Dishonesty has a capital price in Putin’s world.

What’s stronger? A mountain of gold or a mountain of iron?

Might unfortunately makes right. Not by virtue but by mere presence. History is written by the victors. And the powerful always win. Not the righteous, not the bold, not the courageous. It’s always the biggest, baddest of them all who carry the day. And morality ain’t in it. Iron will always defeat gold.

Writing is Cathartic

Hari Seldon may have predicted the fall of the Galactic Empire but his greatest achievement was not this. His greatest feat was working towards rejuvenating the Life of the decaying Empire. Most prophesies, my friends, are self-fulfilling. And writing is the best way to prophesize what is to come.

My Self-Respect

What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time? As a man, self-respect is the most important asset one can ever hope to have. It all starts and ends with this. Self-respect is the Alpha and Omega that will determine one's path through life. From the moment a male is born, … Continue reading My Self-Respect

Is the Triumph of Democracy a Distant Dream?

George Carlin once famously said about the American Dream that it was called like that because one had to be asleep to reach it. Same thing goes for Democracy. It is quickly turning from a clear reality into a figment of imagination. And boy, does one need to use their imagination to get the feel they live in a Democracy or what. As it happens, Tolerance is undermining Democracy. We are asked, forced, nay compelled to tolerate others but nobody else follows suit. Tolerance cuts both ways. But nobody else tolerates Us. How come?

The Cross-Roads of History – A study into the Butterfly effect

It is said the road to hell is paved with the good intentions of those who’ve undertaken the journey. But what about the one leading up to heaven? The road to heaven is paved by those who stood up against the system and challenged its Dogma. Jesus was one of those radicals who proposed a new way of looking at life. For this, the Romans put him on trial for his life. Next to him stood the bandit Barabbas. It is said Pilate of Pont had the crowd decide by acclamation their fate. The crowd chose poorly but did they now?! Have you ever considered the consequences of their choice, throughout time?

Indolence

Indolence is our single greatest enemy. It is there when we wake up in the morning and it beckons to us at night. It is there when we feel the frozen winter wind blasting our face white. And it is there in summer's scorching heat. It is there to remind us of our weakness. But we must not give in to its cunning allure. For indolence, physical and mental, is what turns men and women into mere animals. Perseverance separates Man from Beast. And Perseverance is the archenemy of Indolence.

A worldly advice

According to an article I read last summer, both psychopaths as well as sociopaths have lots of opportunities to act out their impulses. I would even go farther. Life is all about choices. 17 long years ago, I had the fortune to ride the train from Bucharest to Budapest with a very nice Hungarian Jew. … Continue reading A worldly advice
