Daily writing promptWhat are you good at?View all responses Such a charged question, eh. What are you good at? Depends, as always, on who you ask. If you asked my uncle the question 25 years ago, he'd tell you that his nephew was going to amount to nothing. If you asked my dear departed mama, … Continue reading The Pesky Eyes of the Beholder

On Boundaries
But boundaries are there to bring us together without crashing into one another mindlessly like two uranium or radioactive atoms seeking to go Boom.
There Can Be Only One
Family is the most important thing. That is Your own family! Not the one you were born into. That is most likely a crapshoot. So, if you had to choose, it’d be hard one. Luckily for me, it was a no brainer. 20 years ago, I spent a whole two seconds to make up my mind. In the end, I left my grandmother and mother alone and I set out for the New World. I got my family, my dream home, and my domestic bliss. But my mom and grandma both died because of my choice.
On New Beginnings
I was watching this TV show, The Expanse, on Amazon Prime, the other day. It was this scene on top of a Baltimore sky-rise after a cataclysm had flooded it in a radical future that got me thinking. In it, Amos is trying to convince his former partner in crime to leave Earth behind and … Continue reading On New Beginnings
On Natural Born Fighters
A fighter is born not made. I once saw a diminutive man stand up to a giant of a bully. Not once did the man raise his voice. He clearly stated the facts and the bully got out of his establishment. My grandfather taught me the value of principles. One lives and dies by them. One does not change one’s principles. My grandfather taught me family is the most important thing on Earth. One fights and dies protecting one’s family.
On Empathy
Be kind. Be supportive. And don’t add to the total sum misery of humanity. Make your parents proud. Be honest but use diplomacy as much as you can. Be assertive without being a nincompoop. Naked honesty may be expedient but hurting people never is. Rise above the fray. Life is tough. Don’t make it tougher.
On Death and Friendship
They say you don’t choose your family. And you have to love them in life, sickness, and death. And you do. But one day they vanish and become one with the Spirit of the Cosmos, disappearing into immateriality, and you die inside a little… or more. And the pain is so sharp, so acute, so … Continue reading On Death and Friendship
The Traps of Unabashed Materialism
Having lived 17 years in a materialistic society, I can attest that stuff alone doesn’t make one happy. At least not I. But first a bit of personal context. I was born in Communist Romania. I was born there in 1979. I grew up with almost nothing. My mother couldn’t provide me with even the … Continue reading The Traps of Unabashed Materialism
The Meaning of Womanhood
What does it mean to be a woman? I do not know. Nor do I pretend that I could ever discover its meaning. If I had to guess, being a woman is whatever a woman wants it to be on any particular day. In 1851, the great Italian composer Verdi wrote Rigoletto. Not his greatest … Continue reading The Meaning of Womanhood
My Relationship with God
What defines our relationship with the Divine? Life experience, empirical life experience. If you want to know more, step right in. And nobody ever escapes unscathed and unviolated from Life's clutches.
