Principles versus Rules

Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory was totally right. The strangest things occur while doing mechanical, repetitive tasks. In fact, I postulate that most discoveries happened or at least debuted as ideas borne out while people were engaged in menial work.

Case in point: I was removing the painter’s tape from a bunch of 2×4 pieces of wood that I had painted that would go back into becoming my archery target easel. A fairly repetitive and dreary undertaking, although not without its rewards. As I was unwinding the tape, the color theme I had chosen revealed itself in its glory. It made me happy. I am happy still. But as I was doing it, the strangest thought occurred to me.

It occurred to me that even though Putin’s Russia may not be the moral standard of our age, its principles were at least sound.

But what a strange thing to say, man, you will surely utter! And I agree that this is a mighty unusual thought. But consider this or as the Ancient Greek would have said, Pataxon me akouson de. Strike me, if you must, but hear me out first!

Today, I was listening to some very disturbing YouTube news. The first, introduced by Pearly Things, said that a Twitch influencer, had just sold her idea to market a beer made with her own vaginal yeast to a Polish commercial enterprise. That is disturbing, right, don’t you think? And I would agree, it’s disgusting indeed. In other news, a porn star who shall remain unnamed, decided she would debut her modelling career.

After this rapid set of moral punches to my figure, I became groggy with utter contempt and disgust at this day and age of ours, and especially disenchanted with the state of morality here in the West. By which, I mean of course, the utter lack thereof.

For how can We in the West claim the moral ground, and continue to champion woke neo-Marxist values, when it is clear that they are morally bankrupt. Their underlying principle of bringing about social justice is clearly lacking any type of foundation, and justification for being.

Wokism, and in general any dogma coming from the left side of the political spectrum, are failed degenerate attempts at reforming human nature in a direction that belongs to the medical textbooks of clinical psychiatry. They are not worthy of the educated or uneducated mind alike.

That is why one cannot say that the West has any principles left in the great culture wars that started as internal conflicts, and are now opposing East and West, in what will surely be a clash of arms, not just ideas.

For the East, represented by the likes of Putin, Xi Jinping, Modi and Erdogan, is, unlike Us, a rational actor that may also adopt a duplicitous policy when it comes to words and actions, but at least in one instance, they are saying all the right things.

Their principles are sound. Eastern principles are based on life, whereas Western are on death.

We believe in the right of people to abort life. They believe, like normal humans, in the value of a new life that must one day replace the old one. In Russia, abortion is about to become illegal, as it should almost in all cases, be. Life is embraced and nurtured there. Even though, paradoxically, life has always been and continues to be much cheaper towards the Rising Sun.

In Russia, a family comprises of a Man and a Woman. Full stop.

In the West, however, any two people can form a family. Oh, and do not get me wrong. I do not care if two non-heterosexual people got married. Love is blind, right. But to call them a family in the same biblical sense that the word has had since the beginning of time, that is an outrage.

Furthermore, still in the West, soft drugs have been decriminalized, and hard drugs are about to follow suit. All the while, guns, civilian firearms that is, are about to be banned. Yeah, you know I am right. Everywhere, in the ‘Land of the Free’ the right to own guns is being infringed upon, while drugs are becoming legal.

Say Yes to drugs and No to Guns, folks!

At least in Russia, the 2nd amendment initiative piloted by a Russian woman who had spent a good portion of her adult life in the USA, was turned down by the Duma, since it had not received Putin’s accolade. There, politicians are unapologetic. They do not believe in the right of people to have firearms. Nor, by the way, do they believe that drugs should be free for all to consume when and how they please. At least, they have a coherent approach.

Be consistent, people!

In case you want to know more about Russia’s pro-2A movement, here’s a few links you should look at. They make for some interesting reading.

Oh, sweet irony – an international arms dealer being swapped for a junkie and drug peddler. What a messed-up world we live in!

As I said, at least in Russia, they do not try to poison you with drugs, and ban you from having guns. In Russia, you do not get to shoot up drugs, or guns. They are dead right about drugs. They are wrong about the guns. Interesting factoid, pre-WW1 Russia was as liberal if not more so about civilian gun ownership than America at the time.

I believe governments fear civilians who have guns. This clearly nullifies the argument of people who say “What do you need a gun for? Do you think you can take on the government, with its tanks and jets, and atomics? Preposterous.” Government clearly doesn’t share their philosophy. But this discussion is off topic.

Their principles are rooted in past history, in what works. Ours are rooted in what may work if a series of assumptions are proven right by the passage of time. The problem is that Time is a cruel Master, and a deceitful one. Time can prove people Right. Time can also prove people Wrong.

The thing is Time has already proven Us to be in Wrong. Yet, we persist in our delusions.

Although both principles and rules determine the way you act and make decisions, rules are imposed from the outside and must be obeyed to avoid incurring some kind of penalty (a punishment, a fine, a layoff, a season in jail, etc.), whereas principles are internal, and force you to do what you think it is right or correct.

In this sense, if in no other, Easterner are superior to Westerners. For their principles accord with a strong moral compass, while ours have long since lost any bearing on the True Magnetic North.

Bill Maher put it best: Most people live better today because of Western ideals not in spite of them.

However, what is missing from this phrase is the fact that these are Past Western Ideals, he was referring to. Because now, Western ideals are all about blaming a big chunk of the population for everything that is wrong with the world. Western ideology embraces victimology with the same iconoclastic passion zealots used to deface God’s images once upon a time. The West is dividing everyone and everything into two groups: victims and victimizers.

It used to be that Life in the West was about the pursuit of happiness. Nowadays, Life is about escapology, and hiding one’s head under the sand, in the hope of not having to stare into the abyss society is turning into. Life is no longer a Beautiful Ride of Discovery. Life has now become a nightmarish walk among the effigies of our happier ancestors, trying to figure out how to avoid an increasingly dystopian present, and an ever so despondent doom and gloom future.
