Do you have any collections?
Memory not Sex is what made Humanity Strong.
Memory is the recollection of time.
It’s the raison d’être of Ab Memoriam, those slaves or freedmen who used to follow around, like Dune Mentates, accompanying Roman Emperors, generals, powerful people in their daily dealings.
Memory is the only thing that makes the difference between us and wolves. Higher mammals like elephants and whales retain evolved cognitive functions that are assisted by and operate with the aid of powerful memory banks.
Humans have come a long way solely on the basis of recollection. Everything that we are today comes from our capacity to remember.
And what is recollection if not the capacity to evoke, retrieve and revisit the actions/collections of the past.
Yeah, I do have collections. We all do. They’re called memories and it’s what makes us tick.
Whether these are words on paper, photos of our ancestors, paintings of our long lost or departed loved one, or a stamp, coin, book, gun, or any type of collection, that’s how we honour the past, and keep it alive.
That is how we came to be more than just animals scavenging, foraging for food.
By collecting grain, food, treasure, memories.
When we collect something tangible we collect time. We survive death as a species by collecting evidence of our transient time on this Earth.
Life is about preserving Memento Mori.
