On Leadership

Are you a leader or a follower?

Most leaders are not born.

They are formed, shaped by events, thrown into command by outside forces.

They fight it with all their might but they soon lose that battle because of responsibility.

Most leaders take power reluctantly and the lucky ones recognize the poison of authority and are quick to quit while they still retain a soul.

Power corrupts. It corrupts fast enough that a person sound of mind will become enamoured with the sound of their own voice issuing commands before close of business on Day 1.

Becoming a Leader is not a blessing. It is a curse.

A leader is not free for they are slave to the trappings of their post.

Being a follower is not an alternative either.

Just look around you, folks. And all you’ll see is poor shmucks who preach equality while poor, but once they grab a tiny bit of power, their interests become identical with that of the ruling elite: more power, more riches for us and none for the rest.

Let’s face it: everyone’s a follower until they’re not. And then you see the cancer of authority taking over, consuming the same person who wanted to be free before.

Leadership is not the alternative. It’s a trap.
