On Rituals

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

I am a lazy guy.

I hate mornings.

That is, unless I’m about to go hunting, leave for a vacay, or for work.

But usually I detest rising early. It is not unusual for me to show a leg around 9 or 10 o’clock or even later.

I know, I know. I’m bad. But I own this.

However, I did notice that when I wake up early, I get stuff done.

And it all starts with a routine. For instance, this morning I woke up, brushed my teeth, took a shower, and decided to do 100 pushups. On an empty stomach, mind you.

I usually do the pushups late(r) in the day. But today I said “Why the heck not?!”

And lo and behold, one thing leading to another, a rejuvenated and completely awake albeit asthmatic me mobilized the troops (i.e., wife and daughter) and managed to take the whole circus act on the road.

Not only that. By noon, we were done with a very important official business errand, ethnic groceries were in the car, Buck Danny T.3 comic book on the back seat, and heading towards the food court at the mall.

And it was all thanks to the almighty routine.

Ah and since you were wondering about the image, that is how the Royal Navy used to do it back in the day. Sailors used to sleep in their allotted hammocks. When their shift started, the reveille was given and were told to show a leg. But if they lingered on, the Man would cut their hammocks down.

So, yeah, folks. Better show a leg now, eh!
