The Pulse of the Machine

I sometimes sit in wonder as to the intentions of Our Creator.

Did He intend to make us all in His image?

And if he did, why give us Free Will?

Because, the way I see it, and folks, I wish you corrected me if you feel I’m wrong here, the way I see it is He also made us weak and troublesome to ensure He’d have ample opportunities to correct the errors of our ways.

In short, He made us prone to sin, so that He could scold, chastise, admonish, and punish the living lights out of our transgressions.

Not only that, God made sure to collect his pound of Justice by smithing those we love, we care about, we cannot live without.

Almighty God is not in the business of punishing sinners or eradicating sin. Oh no. He is most adept at striking indirectly; never at His intended target(s)… yet always driving His Grand Point home.

Yes, God. I hear You loud and clear. I’m a sinner. I’m a bloody sinner. When will You see fit to punish me for my sins for a change?!

Am I asking too much of You?

Am I expecting too much from You?

Will You strike me now?

I haven’t killed anyone.

I haven’t raped anyone.

I haven’t assaulted anyone.

I haven’t stolen anything from anyone.

I haven’t even coveted anything from anyone, or anybody from anyone.

But I stood still and allowed two abortions to happen on my watch. I didn’t even tried to prevent them. Of this I am guilty. There is no excuse.

But haven’t you exacted enough damage on me?

Haven’t you meted out enough punishment already to my blood and kin?

Do you intend to make an example out of me?

Am I that wicked to deserve your cruel justice day in day out?

I am here.

For once, punish me please, God! But I beg you, please, don’t strike at the innocent!

If You are Just, if it is Justice you seek, don’t punish the innocent.

I am a sinner. That is sure. There’s no two ways about it.

I repent daily. Yet, I peccat fortiter as that impious monk turned reformer Luther once said it.

I know my sins. And I am sure God knows it too.

What I cannot understand is why He always but always punishes others for our sins.

Perhaps we are not meant to know it. But I wish I understood His form of Justice.

Because in my book, Justice is meted out on the same spot, right after the crime was committed. Any delay, translation of the crime, explanation, justification, or perversion of justice makes a mockery of it.

So, if God the Almighty of the Old Testament hears my oration, let Him hear my supplication:

Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem, Creatorem caeli et terrae. Et in Iesum Christum, Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum, qui conceptus est de Spiritu Sancto, natus ex Maria Virgine, passus sub Pontio Pilato, crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus, descendit ad infernos, tertia die resurrexit a mortuis, ascendit ad caelos, sedet ad dexteram Dei Patris omnipotentis, inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos. Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen.

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
